Advice for use by Atelier Théia

How is my candle colored and what wax is used?
All Théia Candles are colored with non-toxic plant pigments. No chemicals are used in our colorings, which may result in slight color variations with use. The wax we use is plant-based and comes from soybeans. This soy wax is 100% natural and GMO-free. It is produced in a sustainable and responsible manner. Finally, our products are not tested on animals, and no animal materials are used in their manufacture.

How is my candle scented?
We collaborate with the perfume workshops in Grasse, the world capital of perfume in France, to create our scents in harmony with the legendary stories of our candles. The Théia Candle Workshop carries out numerous tests to guarantee the preservation of the fragrances during manufacturing. We use various wax mixing and temperature control techniques to offer you a perfect and constant diffusion of our fragrances, without alteration over time.

How long should I leave my candle burning?

Our candles do not require more than one hour of heating per use. Once the surface of the candle is completely liquefied, which takes on average 20 minutes, you can extinguish it. The recommended lighting time is indicated on the packaging. Generally, allow 20 to 30 minutes for a format of around 100 grams and up to one hour maximum for larger candles.

My candle goes out by itself?
Our candles are equipped with a cherry wood wick that requires some maintenance. If the wick extinguishes itself, make sure to leave only about 1 cm of wick after each use. We recommend checking its length before each use. It is also important not to extinguish the wick using the lid, as this can cause condensation, moistening the wick and making it difficult to light the next time you use it. If your candle has been placed in a humid room, this can also affect the wick. In this case, you will need to wait until the wick is completely dry before you can use your candle again.

How should I extinguish my candle?
You can find the Helios snuffer in the 'Accessories' section of our website. This tool is ideal for safely extinguishing your candle, avoiding the risk of burns from hot wax splashes and limiting the production of smoke when extinguishing. If you do not have this accessory, you can simply blow gently on the wick, then let the surface of the wax dry completely before closing the lid. It is important not to smother the candle with the lid, as this could cause condensation on the wick, making it difficult to light next time. In addition, if the wax is still liquid, it could absorb the smoke, which could create a burning smell the next time you use it.

Why did my candle change color?
Théia Candle scented candles benefit from a formulation based on plant-based pigments for their coloring. This plant source of pigment is more difficult to maintain without the use of chemicals to freeze the color. This is why our candles evolve and react to light and heat. The pigmentation may vary slightly over time, becoming more pastel, or during the creation of the Mnémosyne collection, when several colors are mixed. However, the intrinsic quality of the product remains unchanged.

Why does the surface of the candle appear darker after the first use?
We use cherry wood wicks for our creations. It is possible that a slight darker coloration appears on the wax due to the combustion of the wood. However, this does not affect the quality of the combustion for subsequent uses, nor that of the fragrance. To prevent this possible discoloration, we recommend that you respect the combustion times and cut the wick before each new use, leaving only one centimeter at most.

Why do I see small wood chips in my candle?
After the first use, we always recommend cutting off the excess wick to keep a maximum of 1 cm for the next use. This practice removes any excess wood that may have come loose, preventing it from falling into the wax. In addition, it helps to maintain a flame of an appropriate size, preventing any risk of the flame being too high.

A well forms in my candle, and the walls do not melt?
This problem often occurs when you light your candle and blow it out before the entire surface has melted. It is therefore essential to let your candle burn for at least 20 minutes so that the surface melts evenly.

Why does my candle have a very high flame?
It may happen that your candle has a high and imposing flame when lighting, this can persist for several minutes. This is due to the fact that during the previous use, the wood was not completely consumed, the wick currently measuring more than one centimeter. We recommend that once the candle is extinguished and cooled, you cut the wick to avoid this unpleasant surprise during the next use. You will find in the "Accessories" section of our site the Arès wick trimmer to adjust the appropriate wick length before the next use.

Why doesn't my candle burn all the way?
When making our candles, Atelier Théia Candle places a safety and holding capsule under the wick before pouring the wax. This capsule is designed to detach from the wick and extinguish it or drown it in the remaining wax to extinguish the flame. This safety measure is essential to avoid any risk of overheating the container. In addition, as part of the manufacturing process, the weight of our candles includes this loss. This is why you will always have more quantity than expected indicated on the label, because we are aware that one to one and a half centimeters of wax cannot be used. However, we recommend that you never use your candle when this white capsule no longer holds the wick at the bottom of the container.

What is the expiration date of my candle?
All creations made by Atelier Théia Candle benefit from a quality and formulation from high-quality raw materials. This is why our products do not have an expiration date. However, over time, the plant pigments used to color our candles may slightly alter, making the colors paler. However, our fragrances and their safe use do not change, provided that you store them in a dry place, away from light and heat. We therefore do not provide any expiration dates for our products.

Why are there drops appearing on the top of my candle?
We use only chemical-free soy wax for our candles. Although rare, it is possible that drops may appear on the top of the candle in the event of significant temperature variations. In this case, it is advisable to leave the candle without its lid to allow the condensation that has formed on the surface to evaporate. This will not affect the quality of the candle.
